
Food Safety/OSHA Classes
Barbato Consulting, Inc. offers the following training classes in
Portuguese, Spanish and English:

Summaries of Training Classes:
1 & 2) ServeSafe® ( 8 hour and 16 hour ) class
These classes cover the same range of topics. The sixteen hour class expands the topics to cover more detail and allows time for more demonstrations, training videos and participatory activities. The course content is listed below:
Unit 1 Food Safety:
- Providing Safe Food
- The Microworld (Bacteria, Viruses, Parasites, etc.)
- Contamination/Foodborne Illness
- Personal Hygiene
Unit 2 Flow of Food:
- Receiving Safe Food
- Food Storage/safety
- Food Preparation Safety
- Food Serving Safety
- Principles of HACCP
Unit 3 Operation/Management
- Sanitary Facilities/Equipment
- Sanitary Regulations
- Pest Control
At the end of the class, the ServeSafe® Exam is administered. This exam is produced and graded by the National Restaurant Association's (NRA) Course Administration Department. A score of 75% is passing. Passing candidates are awarded the NRA's "ServeSafe® Food Manager Protection Certificate" which is valid for 5 years.
3) Two (2) Hour Safe Food Handling/Sanitation Class:
The two hour safe food handling/sanitation class is designed for your team members. It reviews the key food safety concepts such as food borne illnesses, outbreaks, cross contamination, proper hand washing techniques, correct use of gloves and examples based on store positions ( i.e. receiver, food preparation, cashier ) to emphasize proper food safety techniques.
4) Two (2) Hour Receiver's Class:
Safe food handling begins on the loading dock. This class emphasizes receiving techniques such as the proper method of ''shooting'' the temperature inside delivery trucks, identifying foods that have been "time/temperature abused" record keeping, proper placement of certain food items, proper storage of certain foods that may affect the quality of food products stored nearby and a brief review of foodborne illnesses, handwashing, etc.
5) OSHA*
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations are key elements governing the health and safety of your employees, not to mention the large fines for non-compliance. We can consult on site remediation of existing OSHA violations or we can offer training for your employees to ensure their safety and your compliance with OSHA regulations.
